# Hello Tomorrow (Adidas · 2018)

## Insight
Adidas operates in a category where heritage and innovation are in perpetual tension. The brand's German engineering legacy meets global youth culture. "Hello Tomorrow" may have positioned Adidas as the brand looking forward rather than back.

## Mechanic
A long-form film (P16) potentially inverting the category convention of nostalgia-led sports brand storytelling (P03), positioning Adidas as future-oriented rather than heritage-focused.

## Why it worked
In a market where Nike owns present-tense athletic achievement and Adidas owns heritage, a campaign that claims future territory creates a new competitive space. P03 (behavior inversion) would work here by abandoning heritage — the strongest card in the deck — in favor of forward momentum.

## Steal
The most powerful positioning move is often to abandon your strongest existing asset and claim the territory everyone else is ignoring. In sportswear, everyone claims innovation — no one had claimed tomorrow.
