# Open Spaces (Burberry · 2021)

## Insight
During a period when physical freedom was severely restricted by pandemic lockdowns, the British outdoors — historically embedded in Burberry's identity through its heritage weatherproofing — represented a profound act of liberation.

## Mechanic
A cinematic film directed with extreme physical ambition: performers running, leaping, and moving through dramatic British landscapes in Burberry outerwear. Extended long-form format. Craft is foregrounded — the movement itself is the message. No voiceover, minimal product exposition.

## Why it worked
Craft as message (P08): the physical extremity of the choreography — real bodies in real landscapes, not CGI — transferred directly to perception of the garments' performance and quality. The timing (post-lockdown) gave the freedom theme cultural resonance beyond fashion.

## Steal
When a brand has authentic heritage in a physical domain, commission craft that can only be executed through genuine skill in that domain. The production difficulty is the proof. CGI versions of the same concept would destroy the argument.
