# Lovers, Don't Spread the Hate (Marmite · 2020)

## Insight
Marmite's defining split — love it or hate it — becomes politically charged when ordinary polarisation spills into everyday food opinions. In the culture-war moment of 2020, even spreads become battlegrounds.

## Mechanic
Marmite leans further into its binary brand identity, framing the love/hate divide through the lens of real-world polarisation. Lovers are urged not to convert haters; instead, tolerance and co-existence are celebrated — absurdly, because it's yeast extract.

## Why it worked
The campaign hijacks the cultural moment of extreme polarisation without taking a political stance. The absurdist framing deflects controversy while still generating resonance. Marmite owns the polarisation mechanic so completely that it can comment on society through it.

## Steal
Find the one attribute your brand owns so completely that you can use it as a lens on any cultural moment. When the brand's truth is strong enough, you don't need a new idea — you need a new application.
