Athletes competed in silence. Families who trained alongside their athletes for years could not witness their defining moments. Facebook/Meta could be the connection point across that distance. ## Mechanic A film or campaign built around athletes at the Tokyo Olympics and the loved ones who could not attend — showing how the platform sustained the emotional connection across quarantine and travel restrictions. The pandemic context made the theme of separation and reunion viscerally resonant. ## Why it worked Long-form drama (P16): the emotional stakes of the Olympics without spectators required extended treatment. The timing was inherently newsworthy — the empty Olympic stadium was the image of 2021. Connection across distance is Facebook's core claim, and the context made that claim necessary rather than aspirational. ## Steal Look for moments in the real world where your product's core benefit is desperately needed. Don't create the context — find it. The COVID Olympics was a gift to any brand whose product is human connection. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p16]] - Sibling: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] - Sibling: [[apple-think-different-1997.md|Think Different]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
