But behind every Olympic athlete is a parent — almost always a mother — who drove them to practice at 5am, sacrificed financially, and believed when others didn't. P&G makes products that help run homes. The real P&G hero was already there; no one had framed the story correctly. ## Mechanic A series of long-form films showing Olympic athletes from their childhood through the games — always framed through the mother's perspective. The athlete's achievement is the backdrop; the mother's journey is the story. "It takes someone who believes in you, so you can believe in yourself." ## Why it worked P&G didn't claim athletic performance — it claimed the emotional infrastructure of athletic performance. The role of domestic products in enabling that infrastructure is genuine: laundry, household cleaning, personal care. The campaign is not a metaphor; it's a direct claim about what P&G actually does. The emotional power is proportional to the truth of the insight. ## Steal When the product's role is supporting rather than starring, find the story where supporting is the heroic act. The unglamorous logistics of care — what mothers actually do — are more emotionally powerful than any aspirational narrative precisely because they are real and underappreciated. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p16]] - Sibling: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] - Sibling: [[apple-think-different-1997.md|Think Different]] - Emotion match: [[always-like-a-girl-2014.md|Like a Girl]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
