Running an epic action sequence purely for a glass of beer makes the joke visible and the audience complicit in the absurdity. ## Mechanic A parody of blockbuster action film chase sequences — helicopters, explosions, hundreds of extras — pursued at maximum seriousness for a single end goal: beer. The scale of the production is the punchline. Operatic score underlines that this is a grand, serious epic about nothing more important than a cold drink. ## Why it worked The film committed completely to its parody premise. No winking at the camera, no breaking of the frame — pure deadpan escalation. The seriousness of the production made the absurd premise funnier. It was also one of the first ads designed to be forwarded via email — pre-YouTube viral, engineered for sharing. ## Steal Absurdist advertising works when the execution is more serious than the premise deserves. The comedy comes from the gap between scale and subject, not from jokes. Cast the production, not the punchline. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p11]] - Sibling: [[metro-trains-dumb-ways-to-die-2012.md|Dumb Ways to Die]] - Sibling: [[old-spice-man-your-man-could-smell-like-2010.md|The Man Your Man Could Smell Like]] - Emotion match: [[absolut-absolut-campaign-1981.md|Absolut _____]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
