They are not born with body image issues — they acquire them from culture. A brand that claims to fight for real beauty should acknowledge this acquisition at its earliest stage. ## Mechanic A film showing young girls — barely old enough to read — describing their bodies in the language of adult female self-criticism: "My tummy is too big." "I hate my hair." "I wish I were prettier." The camera holds on their faces — innocent, utterly genuine. The effect is profoundly uncomfortable. The film closes with the proposition that low self-esteem in young women begins here, at this age, and that we can change it. ## Why it worked P13 (truth telling): the truth being told — that body image anxiety starts in childhood — was not being stated anywhere in the beauty category. Dove had the courage to name it directly. P03 (behavior inversion): beauty advertising normally aspires; this confronts. The discomfort is not accidental — it is the mechanism by which the message is delivered and retained. ## Steal When your brand's purpose intersects with a truth about children's experience, the stakes rise automatically. Audiences cannot dismiss discomfort about children the same way they dismiss discomfort about adults. The emotional weight is inherently amplified. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p13]] - Sibling: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] - Sibling: [[calm-the-last-photo-2022.md|The Last Photo]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
