# Roller Babies (Evian · 2009)

## Insight
Evian's positioning around youth and vitality had been visual for decades — young, fit bodies in natural settings. The insight is that the most literal expression of "live young" is babies: the ultimate symbol of new life, unmarked by time. But babies doing adult things is inherently absurd and delightful, which makes the brand's serious claim memorable through pure spectacle.

## Mechanic
A film showing CGI babies rollerblading to hip-hop music — breakdancing, doing tricks, forming human pyramids. Technically, the film is a marvel: babies are motion-captured and digitally composited performing adult athletic moves. The song "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang. No voiceover. No claim. Just babies on skates. Set a Guinness World Record for most-viewed online ad at the time with 45 million YouTube views.

## Why it worked
P16 (long-form drama) in a non-narrative sense: the film sustains interest through escalating spectacle. P11 (absurd as carrier): the absurdity of skating babies is so committed and technically accomplished that it becomes something else — a kind of wonder. The brand link ("live young") is logical without being stated. The CGI quality was genuinely unprecedented for advertising at the time.

## Steal
Viral mechanics require an image that cannot be explained without sharing it. A description of "babies rollerblading" makes no sense; the experience of watching it is irresistible. Design for the description gap — if you can convey it fully in words, it will not be shared.
