# Unskippable (GEICO · 2015)

## Insight
Viewers skip pre-roll ads at the five-second mark — so GEICO delivered the entire message in the first five seconds, then let the frozen, absurd aftermath play on.

## Mechanic
A series of YouTube pre-rolls where the brand message lands in the first five seconds; the actors then "freeze" while the world around them continues absurdly — a dog eating the table, a baby idol eating oatmeal. Title card: "You can't skip this GEICO ad because it's already over."

## Why it worked
The format constraint (skip button) became the concept itself. Viewers who skipped got the message; viewers who stayed were rewarded with surreal comedy. The limitation was reframed as structural confidence.

## Steal
When a format has a technical hard limit, make that limit load-bearing. Turn the constraint into the punchline rather than fighting it.
