# Rule Yourself (Under Armour · 2016)

## Insight
The public sees athletes only in moments of triumph. What they do not see is the thousands of hidden hours — the training at 4am, the repetition, the failure — that make the triumph possible. The athlete you see on the podium is the product of the athlete no one sees in the gym.

## Mechanic
Film featuring Michael Phelps training — in the pool, alone, before dawn — set to a haunting track. No competition footage. No gold medals. Only the invisible work. Premiered three days before the Rio Olympics. Became one of the most shared Olympic-adjacent campaigns ever.

## Why it worked
Long-form drama (P16): the slow burn — multiple minutes of underwater training footage — creates a meditative quality that implicates the viewer in the discipline. Product as proof (P14): Under Armour is the gear of the invisible hours; the product earns its place by being present in the authentic, unglamorous moment. The Olympics timing provided a context that made every frame more powerful.

## Steal
Show the version of success your audience never sees — the unglamorous, repetitive, private preparation. The gap between the hidden work and the public result is more emotionally powerful than either alone. Ugly training footage > victory footage.
