# Heaven (Volkswagen · 2010)

## Insight
VW's DDB-era advertising consistently found absurdist or comic ways to express the reliability and longevity of VW vehicles. "Heaven" likely used death/afterlife as an absurdist frame for the concept of a VW lasting so long that even its retirement is remarkable.

## Mechanic
An absurdist film using the afterlife or heaven as a setting — likely portraying the death/retirement of a VW vehicle or its owner in comedic terms that reframe the brand's durability or longevity values through surreal narrative.

## Why it worked
Using death and afterlife as comedic territory in automotive advertising is counterintuitive — most car brands communicate around safety and longevity with earnestness. The absurdist frame allows VW to make the same claim (our cars last) in a way that is distinctively brand-appropriate given VW's long history of self-aware advertising humor.

## Steal
Any serious product claim can be dramatized through its extreme conclusion. If a car lasts long enough, eventually someone has to take it to heaven. Following the logical conclusion of a claim to its absurd extreme is a reliable comedy structure.
