# Kids Content 16 cards. These decide a frame: what is in it, how it is lit, and what it is made of. Every card carries what it is, what it does to the audience, where it works best, what to avoid, and the prompt written out in full. --- ### Bright High-Key Soft Light **Also called:** high key, no shadow lighting **What it is:** Strong diffused light from more than one direction removes hard shadows, and the image comes out bright and even with no dark areas. **Effect on the audience:** It produces safety, cheer and play, and the complete absence of shadow removes any sense of threat. **Used for and where it works best:** The base rule of all children's content: faces fully lit and the background no darker than they are. In animation use a high ambient with soft coloured shadow rather than black. Even in a night scene let the moon or a lamp give enough light that everything is visible. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Stop Motion, Explainer, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Lyric Video | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Fairy Tale, Musical, Comedy, Science / Educational **Avoid when:** Low key and hard facial shadow frighten small children. Do not leave black areas in the frame; a child fills them with imagined things. **Prompt:** `bright high key lighting from several soft sources, no hard shadows, faces fully lit, background as bright as the subject` `kids.high_key_soft` ### Repetition Structure **Also called:** repeated shot pattern, predictable structure **What it is:** The same shot at the same angle and size returns in every verse, and the only thing that changes is the new element. **Effect on the audience:** Repetition gives safety and teaches: the child knows what is coming, predicts it and joins in, and that is learning itself. **Used for and where it works best:** The backbone of children's songs: the same scene in every verse with a new animal, a new letter or a new colour. Keep the change single and obvious rather than multiple. It also saves production because the same setup is reused. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Lyric Video, Stop Motion, Explainer, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok) | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Musical, Fairy Tale, Science / Educational, Nature / Wildlife **Avoid when:** Changing everything in every verse loses the child and breaks the prediction. The rule is wrong for adult content, where repetition reads as laziness. **Prompt:** `identical framing and staging repeated each verse with only the featured animal changing, same light and same background` **Yields to:** `kids.parade_accumulation` — The song accumulates instead of substituting. `kids.repetition_structure` ### Point-And-Name Shot **Also called:** naming shot, label shot **What it is:** The object is large and clear in frame and a character's finger or hand points to it exactly as its name is spoken. **Effect on the audience:** It ties the word to the image in the same instant, which is the basic mechanism of vocabulary learning in small children. **Used for and where it works best:** Use it in every teaching segment: the finger arrives a fraction before the word. Keep the object alone in frame with nothing competing. If the content also teaches reading, set the word beneath it at the same instant as an overlay in the edit, never in the generated frame (`kids.singalong_text`). **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, Explainer, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Stop Motion, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Lyric Video | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Science / Educational, Musical, Nature / Wildlife **Avoid when:** A point that lags behind the word breaks the link and nothing is learned. More than one object in frame and the child cannot tell which the word belongs to. **Prompt:** `[Edit Overlay Instruction]: single large object centred on a plain background with a hand pointing to it exactly as its name is spoken, clear space beneath for the word to be set in the edit when reading is taught; no lettering in the generated frame` **Yields to:** `kids.pointer` — No character in frame: use a graphic marker. `kids.point_and_name` ### Sing-Along Text **Also called:** karaoke text, lyric line for kids **What it is:** The song's words appear in large clear type as they are sung, usually one line at a time, sometimes with each word colouring as it is sung. **Edit Overlay Rule:** Sing-along lyric text is an editing and graphics overlay added in post-production; it is NEVER burned into the generative AI image or video frame itself. **Effect on the audience:** It helps the child memorise and sing along, and ties sound to written shape so reading is learned without a lesson. **Used for and where it works best:** Essential in alphabet, number and language songs. Planned in Phase 2/Phase 5 and rendered as an edit subtitle track. Use a plain unornamented typeface at large size and colour each word exactly as it is sung. In Arabic add the vowel marks when the content is instructional and keep the line short. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, Lyric Video, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Explainer, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Music Video | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Musical, Science / Educational, Faith / Biblical Epic **Avoid when:** Never burn text tokens into the diffusion image prompt (generative engines hallucinate corrupted letterforms). Two lines at once is beyond what a small child can track. A song sung in one language and subtitled in another is not a sing-along; `textimg.subtitling_a_sung_line` governs it. **Prompt:** `[Edit Overlay Instruction]: one large clear line of lyrics across the lower safe area, plain rounded sans-serif font, animated karaoke highlight per sung word` **Yields to:** `kids.bouncing_ball` — A pre-reading audience follows a ball, not a highlight. `kids.singalong_text` ### The Bouncing Ball **Also called:** follow the ball, sing along ball **What it is:** A small ball or shape hops from word to word above the text in time with the song, showing where the singing has reached. **Effect on the audience:** It gives the child a clear marker to follow so they can sing in time even before they can read. It is the oldest sing-along device in film. **Used for and where it works best:** Use it in memorisation songs, hymns and alphabet songs. Have the bounce land on the word exactly on its first syllable. Give the ball a colour that contrasts with the text so it is visible. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, Lyric Video, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), Explainer, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Music Video | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Musical, Faith / Biblical Epic, Science / Educational **Avoid when:** A ball that lags or leads the vocal confuses more than it helps. A complicated shape instead of a ball pulls attention off the words. **Prompt:** `a bright ball hopping word to word above the lyric line, landing on the first syllable of each word` `kids.bouncing_ball` ### Colour-Coded Characters **Also called:** one colour per character, palette identity **What it is:** Each character is given one clear colour of their own in costume or body, and it never changes across episodes. **Effect on the audience:** It lets the child identify characters instantly even from a distance or at small size and makes the names easier to remember. **Used for and where it works best:** Choose widely separated primaries: red, blue, yellow, green. Never give two characters neighbouring colours; where the cast outnumbers the hues that stay apart, pair each hue with a distinct shape, species or silhouette so no two characters share both. Carry the same colour into that character's text, graphics and cards so the association strengthens. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Stop Motion, Explainer, Game Cinematic / Gameplay, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok) | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Fairy Tale, Musical, Comedy, Adventure **Avoid when:** Similar or muted colours make the characters blur together. Changing a character's colour between episodes destroys the recognition you built. **Prompt:** `four characters each in one distinct primary colour, consistent across every scene, bright flat palette` `kids.colour_coded_characters` ### Letter Or Number Hero Insert **Also called:** hero letter shot, character of the day **What it is:** The letter or number is shown very large in frame as if it were a character, in a single colour on a clean background, with a simple movement. **Effect on the audience:** It turns an abstract shape into something familiar and likeable, and the large size fixes the form in visual memory. **Used for and where it works best:** The backbone of alphabet and number songs: show the letter large, then a word that begins with it, then return to the letter. Keep the letterform correct and consistent with the school script. In Arabic show the letter in isolation first, then inside a word. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, Explainer, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Lyric Video, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok) | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Science / Educational, Musical, Faith / Biblical Epic **Avoid when:** An ornamental typeface or an incorrect letterform teaches the child the wrong shape. The letter placed small in a corner stops being the lesson, because the child reads whatever is biggest in the frame; keep it the hero. **The glyph itself is never generated, and this card used to hand you a prompt that generated it.** A letter or a numeral is the lesson — it is the one thing in the frame that must be exactly right — and it is also the thing a generator reliably gets subtly wrong: a plausible letterform that is not the letter. On a non-Latin script the failure is total and invisible to anyone who does not read it, which on an alphabet song is most of the people approving it. **Generate the background and the character; set the glyph as a typeset overlay in the edit**, in a real font, checked by someone who reads the script. `textimg.non_latin_script` governs and applies to children's work in full. **Prompt:** `[Edit Overlay Instruction]: plain bright background with a gentle bounce and clear space at centre, sized for one large glyph to be set over it in the edit; no lettering, no numerals, no text in the generated frame` **Yields to:** `textimg.non_latin_script` — AUTHORITY, cited by id in the card: the glyph itself is never generated. `kids.letter_number_insert` ### One Subject On A Clean Background **Also called:** isolated subject, plain backdrop **What it is:** One single thing in frame against a plain or very simple background with no competing detail. **Effect on the audience:** It cleans the child's attention: there is nothing else to look at, so learning is faster and clearer. **Used for and where it works best:** The rule for every teaching shot: one object, one name, a background colour that contrasts with it. In animation use a flat colour with no pattern. When you need an environment, keep its detail still, distant and low contrast. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, Explainer, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Stop Motion, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Lyric Video | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Science / Educational, Musical, Nature / Wildlife **Avoid when:** A patterned or moving background steals the attention and the lesson is lost. Two objects in frame with only one named usually teaches the wrong word, because the child cannot tell which one you mean; the exception is a choosing game where both are named in turn. **Prompt:** `one object centred on a flat contrasting colour background, no pattern, no other elements, even bright light` **Yields to:** `kids.wide_clean_count` — More than one object must be in frame (counting or choosing). `kids.clean_background_subject` ### Clap-Along Cue **Also called:** clap prompt, join in beat **What it is:** The character claps a clear rhythm looking into the lens, in a framing that shows the hands completely, leaving space for the child to copy. **Effect on the audience:** It turns watching into physical movement, and movement fixes rhythm and words in memory better than listening alone. **Used for and where it works best:** Place it on the chorus or at the end of each verse, with a slow clear pattern of four claps only. Keep the hands centred in frame and never cropped. It works the same in animation with the arm movement enlarged. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Lyric Video, Explainer, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Dance Film | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Musical, Comedy, Fairy Tale **Avoid when:** A fast pattern the child cannot follow creates frustration instead of participation. If the hands are cropped out of frame the child cannot see what to copy. **Prompt:** `character facing the lens clapping four slow clear beats with both hands fully visible in the centre of the frame` **Yields to:** `kids.mirror_move` — The movement has sides and must be mirrored. `kids.clap_cue` ### Counting Beat **Also called:** one object per beat, rhythmic counting **What it is:** Each number lands on a musical beat and one object is added to the frame with it, so counting and rhythm move together. **Effect on the audience:** The rhythm fixes the sequence in memory and gets the child counting out loud without noticing they are learning. **Used for and where it works best:** The backbone of number songs: a beat, an object, the numeral in the corner — set as an overlay in the edit, never generated (`kids.letter_number_insert`) — and on to ten. Keep every object in frame so the child can recount at the end. Keep the tempo slow enough for them to follow. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, Lyric Video, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Explainer, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Stop Motion | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Musical, Science / Educational, Nature / Wildlife **Avoid when:** A fast tempo makes the child lose the count and give up. If the objects vanish after being counted they cannot check the total. **Prompt:** `[Edit Overlay Instruction]: one object appearing on each beat, all objects staying visible, slow steady tempo, clear space in one corner where the numeral will be set in the edit; no numerals, no text in the generated frame` **Yields to:** `kids.wide_clean_count` — Teaching without music: show all at once and hold. `kids.counting_beat` ### Everyone-Dances Finale **Also called:** group finale, final dance **What it is:** Every character gathers in one wide shot and dances the same simple movement at the end of the song. **Effect on the audience:** It delivers a peak of shared joy and a clear ending, and the child gets up and dances along because the move is simple and repeated. **Used for and where it works best:** Use one easy movement only: a jump, a turn, arms up. Shoot a clean wide showing every body in full at child eye height. Repeat it at least four times so the child can learn it and join in. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Dance Film, Lyric Video, Stop Motion, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok) | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Musical, Comedy, Fairy Tale **Avoid when:** Choreography too complex to copy leaves the child a spectator. Cutting to close-ups in the finale loses the bodies, and a child who wants to dance cannot see the move. **Prompt:** `clean wide at child height, all characters dancing the same simple step together, repeated four times, bright even light` **Yields to:** `kids.wave_goodbye` — The piece must end calm, not on a peak. `kids.everyone_dances` ### Layered Background Parallax **Also called:** multiplane background, depth layers **What it is:** The background is split into layers moving at different speeds: the far layer slow, the near layer faster, producing a sense of depth. **Effect on the audience:** It gives a world depth and life without the cost of 3D and makes walking and travel feel real. **Used for and where it works best:** Essential in walking, journey and parade songs in 2D animation: three layers are enough (sky, trees, near grass). Keep the speeds even with no jitter. Use the near layer along the bottom of the frame to give the ground. **Best in:** formats: 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), Kids Content, 3D CG Animation, Lyric Video, Explainer, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Game Cinematic / Gameplay | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Fairy Tale, Adventure, Musical, Nature / Wildlife **Avoid when:** Many layers at similar speeds make the movement look jittery. A near layer moving too fast pulls attention off the character. **Prompt:** `three layer parallax background, distant sky slow, mid trees medium, near grass fast along the bottom of frame` `kids.bg_parallax` ### Walk-In-Place Loop **Also called:** walk cycle, treadmill walk **What it is:** The character walks in place in frame while the background travels behind them, so the walk can run for any length with no new setup. **Effect on the audience:** It gives a sense of continuous travel and keeps the character in frame where the child can follow them. **Used for and where it works best:** Ideal for journey and parade songs: the character stays put and the events come to them. Change the background each verse so progress is felt. Lock the step rhythm to the song's tempo so the two agree. **Best in:** formats: 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), Kids Content, 3D CG Animation, Lyric Video, Stop Motion, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Game Cinematic / Gameplay | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Fairy Tale, Adventure, Musical, Nature / Wildlife **Avoid when:** A step out of sync with the background makes the character look like they are sliding. The same background for the whole song kills the sense of travel. **Prompt:** `side on walk cycle with the character centred in frame and the layered background scrolling behind at the step tempo` `kids.walk_loop` ### Simple Day To Night Change **Also called:** time change shot, sky shift **What it is:** The identical shot is shown twice: day with a blue sky and a sun, night with a dark sky and a moon, with nothing else changed. **Effect on the audience:** It teaches the passage of time in the clearest possible way, because the only thing that changed is the sky, so the child links it at once. **Used for and where it works best:** Essential in songs about days of the week, daily routine and bedtime. Make the change a slow dissolve or a gradual colour shift rather than a cut. Keep the sun and the moon clearly visible in roughly the same position. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Lyric Video, Explainer, Stop Motion, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok) | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Musical, Science / Educational, Fairy Tale, Nature / Wildlife **Avoid when:** Changing the angle or the elements along with the time confuses the child and loses the lesson. A very dark night frightens; keep it a lit blue. **Prompt:** `identical framing dissolving from a bright blue day sky with a sun to a lit blue night sky with a moon, nothing else changing` `kids.day_night_simple` ### Emotion Face Insert **Also called:** feeling close-up, expression card **What it is:** A close-up of a face carrying one clear, heightened expression: happy, sad, mildly afraid, surprised, with the feeling named. **Effect on the audience:** It teaches the child to read and name emotions, a skill built through visual repetition rather than explanation. **Used for and where it works best:** Use it in emotion and behaviour content: one face in frame, one expression, and the feeling named in speech and in text set as an overlay in the edit, never generated (`kids.singalong_text`). Push the brow and the mouth a little beyond life. Let the same character show every emotion so the comparison reads. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Explainer, Stop Motion, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Lyric Video | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Musical, Science / Educational, Fairy Tale **Avoid when:** A mixed or subtle expression is not read by a small child. Intense fear or sadness distresses them; keep it mild and resolve it quickly. **Prompt:** `[Edit Overlay Instruction]: close-up of one character showing a single exaggerated clear expression, clear space beneath for the feeling's name to be set in the edit; no lettering in the generated frame` **Yields to:** `kids.action_reaction` — The feeling comes from an event: cause then face. `kids.emotion_face_insert` ### Character Wipe Transition **Also called:** character crosses frame, body wipe for kids **What it is:** A character crosses the frame from one side to the other, covering it with their body for an instant, and in that instant the scene behind them changes. **Effect on the audience:** It gives a playful transition a child can understand: the character changed the place, rather than a strange effect arriving from nowhere. **Used for and where it works best:** The best transition in children's content after a plain cut. Keep the crossing in the same direction at the same speed every time and tie it to a cheerful sound. It works identically in animation and live action. **Best in:** formats: Kids Content, 2D Animation (Western / Cartoon), 3D CG Animation, Stop Motion, Explainer, Vertical Short-Form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok), Lyric Video | genres: Preschool / Early Learning, Family, Fairy Tale, Comedy, Musical, Adventure **Avoid when:** A fast crossing that does not cover the frame completely exposes the cut and confuses. Overusing it inside one episode drains the fun out of it. **Prompt:** `character walks across close to the lens filling the frame, the background changing behind them as they pass, cheerful sound` **Yields to:** `kids.storybook_page_turn` — The story has page structure: turn the page. `kids.character_wipe`
