# Terms of Use

Effective date: September 15, 2026.

## Service

Engineering Project OS is a skills-only plugin for ChatGPT and Codex plus an open-source software package for maintaining repository-local engineering context, plans, findings, evidence and user-owned reusable failure knowledge. It does not provide a hosted service, user account, remote storage, central failure database or background synchronization.

## License

The Project OS software and documentation are provided under the repository's [MIT License](../LICENSE). These terms do not replace or restrict rights granted by that license.

## User responsibilities

Users are responsible for:

- using Project OS only with repositories and data they are authorized to access;
- reviewing previews, diffs and requested permissions before allowing file changes;
- maintaining appropriate version control, backups and repository access controls;
- reviewing portable lessons and keeping credentials, private data, URLs, repository-specific evidence and production secrets out of reusable Project OS knowledge and exported bundles;
- controlling where reusable bundles are stored and which repositories receive imported lessons;
- complying with the terms and policies of ChatGPT, Codex, GitHub and other environments they use.

Project OS validation checks repository structure and internal consistency. A passing check does not prove application correctness, security, deployment state, production behavior or human acceptance.

## No warranty

Project OS is provided without warranties or guarantees, as described in the MIT License. Users remain responsible for reviewing and testing changes before relying on them.
