# Choose your build path

Use the resources, or start the optional guided build tool.

You have two good paths from here — either way, the next stretch is about **building your project**, not submitting yet.

**Want structure? Take the guided path.** Type `$build-onboard` to start the optional guided build tool. It stays inside Step 3 and walks you through Ideate, Scope, PRD, Spec, Checklist, and Build. Codex will interview you, write planning documents in your project, and use those documents as build context. It will help you get to a proof of concept — it won't finish the project for you; you'll keep working on it after. If you're newer to coding with AI, it's a good way to get practice with the more structured best practices of doing it.

**Know what you're building? Skip the guide and build now.** No command needed — just start creating your project right here with Codex as your coding agent: describe what you want, iterate, test, and ship features. Then, when the project feels ready to submit, type `$prepare-submission` and Codex will turn what you built into a Devpost-ready story, identify missing materials, and prepare you for final review.

Don't run `$prepare-submission` until you have something built — it works from your actual project.

When your project has something visual to inspect, Codex can still help you start the local dev server and describe how to open it from your browser. If you later switch to Codex Desktop, you can use the in-app browser for side-by-side preview.
