- List the JLPT words that use a kanji
- Explain a Japanese grammar pattern with an example
Cost & access
No commerce. The plugin reads study content from japaneseskills.com and shows it in the chat; it sells nothing, takes no payments, shows no plans or prices, and links to no pricing, subscription or checkout page. On the website, optional paid plans cover the course lessons and the full recordings. In the chat, the recordings of the words, example sentences and grammar examples that the plugin returns play for everyone, with no account. Where a result lists a course lesson, the plugin only labels it “needs a subscription or pass”, with no call to action.
Declared limitations
- Translating a sentence or paragraph is out of scope: the tools look up single words, kanji and grammar points.
- An unrelated request: the plugin cannot book or buy anything.
- Writing new Japanese text is out of scope: the tools only look up words, kanji and grammar points from the site’s lists.

What does 食べる mean, and how do I conjugate it?

Description
From the marketplace listing
Japanese Skills · 言の葉 brings the study content of japaneseskills.com into the conversation. Ask what a Japanese word means, how it is read or pronounced, or how to conjugate it, and a word card appears: the reading with its pitch accent drawn the way dictionaries print it, the meaning in your language, whether a verb is godan or ichidan, its key forms and full conjugation table, an example sentence with a translation, and play buttons for the site’s recordings where the word has one. Ask about a kanji to see the JLPT words that use it, from the lowest level up. Ask about a grammar pattern such as 〜てもいい or ために to get its meaning, an example and the page that explains it. It can also list the site’s JLPT practice levels and courses, with links. The words come from the site’s list of 9,040 JLPT words (N5–N1), with meanings in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English and Korean; the grammar comes from its 828 grammar points. Word meanings are from JMdict (EDRDG, CC BY-SA 4.0) and pitch accents from Kanjium (CC BY-SA 4.0). Every answer links to its page on japaneseskills.com. For learners of Japanese from their first words to JLPT N1, and for their teachers. What it does not do: it does not translate sentences or paragraphs, and it covers only the words and grammar points in the site’s lists. When a word is not in the list, it says so instead of guessing. Privacy: no account and no sign-up. The plugin receives the word, kanji or grammar pattern you ask about and the display language; it uses them only to answer and does not store them. It keeps only anonymous daily counts of how often each lookup is used. The word card sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and runs no analytics.

description: First steps with Japanese Skills · 言の葉. Use right after the plugin is installed, or when the user asks what it can do or how to study Japanese words, kanji and grammar with it. Sets the explanation language, walks through one word and one grammar point at the user's level, then offers a short check.

# Get started with Japanese Skills · 言の葉
Goal: show the user, with examples at their level, what the lookups do, then let them continue on their own.
1. Ask which language they want explanations in: Simplified Chinese (lang "zh-Hans"), Traditional Chinese ("zh-Hant"), English ("en") or Korean ("ko"); for any other language use "en" and explain in the user's language. Ask roughly where they are: just starting, or a JLPT level from N5 to N1. Use that lang in every call after this.
2. Ask for a Japanese word they want to know, or offer one for their level (for example 食べる at N5). Call `lookup_word`. Explain the reading and its pitch accent, the meaning, and for a verb whether it is godan or ichidan and two or three of its forms. Mention the play buttons on the word card only when the result has recordings.
3. Offer a grammar pattern at their level (for example 〜てもいい at N4), or take one they name. Call `find_grammar`, give the meaning and the example with its translation, and link the page.
4. If they are interested, call `lookup_kanji` for a kanji from the word and list a few of the words that use it.
5. Offer a short check: two or three questions built only from what the results returned, such as a reading, a verb form or the meaning of the example. Correct answers briefly and kindly.
Rules:
- Use only what the tools return. If a lookup finds nothing, say so; don't guess a meaning or reading.
- Link each result's page and name the site, Japanese Skills · 言の葉.
- These tools cover single words, kanji and grammar points. Translate longer texts without them, and don't present such translations as coming from the site.
- If the user asks about the site's practice levels or courses, call `list_courses` and pass on the levels, courses and links. Don't quote prices or plans.
- The plugin needs no personal details, so don't ask for any.
