Paycheck calculator for 2026: see how much is your paycheck after taxes, per check and per year. Give a salary, an hourly wage with hours and overtime, or the gross pay per check, plus your state, and Netwise Paycheck Calculator shows your take-home pay line by line.
What it computes:
- Federal income tax withholding with the IRS Publication 15-T (2026) percentage method and your Form W-4: filing status, the Step 2 box, Step 3 dependents (2,200 dollars per child under 17), and Step 4(a), 4(b) and 4(c).
- Social Security at 6.2% up to the 2026 wage base of 184,500 dollars, Medicare at 1.45%, and the 0.9% Additional Medicare tax on wages over 200,000 dollars, check by check through the year.
- State income tax withholding from each supported state's 2026 formula or brackets, plus state employee payroll taxes such as California SDI, New York PFL, New Jersey FLI, and Washington Cares. New York City and Yonkers local tax are included when you say so.
- Pre-tax 401(k), HSA, and health premiums, and Roth 401(k).
- Net pay per paycheck and per year, effective tax rates, and the paycheck where Social Security stops.
Compare two scenarios side by side, for example a job offer in Texas against one in California, or how much more per paycheck you keep if you raise your 401(k) to 10%. Or work backward: what salary do you need to take home 5,000 dollars a month?
The card shows a pay breakdown with a chart, a per check or per year toggle, and editable inputs. Download a PDF estimate and a CSV with one row per 2026 paycheck.
Limits: results are estimates for tax year 2026, not pay stubs, payroll, or tax advice. States without a verified 2026 method are clearly marked as not included. Most city, county, and school district taxes, bonuses and supplemental wages, tips, and self-employment tax are not modeled.

Running payroll for employees is out of scope. Expected: the tool is not called; the assistant explains this plugin only estimates one person's take-home pay and does not run payroll or pay anyone.
Filing a tax return is out of scope. Expected: the tool is not called; the assistant explains it cannot file taxes.

# Netwise Paycheck Calculator
Tools:
- `calculate_paycheck`: one job. "How much is my paycheck after taxes", "85k after taxes in California", "$22 an hour 40 hours".
- `compare_paychecks`: two scenarios. Job offers in two states, a raise, or "how much more per paycheck if I raise my 401k to 10%". Pass `a` in full and `b` with only the fields that change.
- `calculate_gross_up`: "what salary do I need to take home $X".
How to call:
1. Pay: `annual_salary`, or `hourly_rate` + `hours_per_week` (+ `overtime_hours_per_week`), or `gross_per_paycheck`. Pay frequency defaults to biweekly; filing status defaults to single. If the user gave the pay and the state, call right away; do not ask about W-4 details first.
2. State: a code or name (`CA`, `New Jersey`). For New York City pass `state: "NY", locality: "nyc"`. If the result says the state is not supported, tell the user the state tax is not included.
3. W-4: `filing_status`, `w4_step2_checked`, `children_under_17`/`other_dependents` or `w4_step3_amount`, and Step 4(a)-(c) only when the user mentions them.
4. Pre-tax: `k401_percent`, `hsa_per_paycheck`, `health_insurance_per_paycheck`. Roth: `roth_401k_percent`.
5. Reply with net pay per check and per year, the main tax lines, any notes about unsupported states or caps, and the PDF/CSV links. Say it is an estimate.
Do not use for making pay stubs or proof of income, running payroll for employees, filing tax returns, or self-employment tax.
