Ask about the state of the world and get answers grounded in Our World in Data's published research: the numbers come straight from the data behind its charts, the organisation that produced them is named, and you get a link to the chart to check it yourself.
Our World in Data covers poverty, health, population, energy, climate, food, education, democracy, war and more, for most countries in the world and often over decades or centuries.
Use it to:
- find the right chart or article on a topic
- get the actual figures behind a chart, for the countries and years you need
- check a number or a claim against the data
- understand what a chart measures, and where its data comes from
- embed a chart in a web page, or get an image of it for a slide
It only uses what Our World in Data has published, from public pages on ourworldindata.org, so it can't answer questions its data doesn't cover. No account needed. Most of the data comes from other organisations, such as the UN and the World Bank; the plugin credits them, and their licences apply when you republish.

description: "Agent skills for working with Our World in Data: search published charts, explorers and articles, fetch the data and metadata behind them, embed charts, and cite the original sources. Use whenever a task mentions Our World in Data, OWID, ourworldindata.org or a grapher URL, or asks for cross-country data on global problems (population, health and causes of death, energy, CO2 and climate, poverty and GDP, education, democracy, war, food, and more): finding a chart or article, fetching or plotting the data behind a chart, fact-checking a claim or answering a factual question against OWID data, embedding a chart or its PNG in HTML, slides or an artifact, or explaining what a chart shows and where its data comes from. No API key."
---
Our World in Data (OWID) publishes thousands of interactive charts and hundreds
of articles on global problems. Everything this skill does is an ordinary URL
over HTTPS with no API key. OWID's own work is free to reuse under CC BY, but
the data keeps whatever licence its original producer set, and a few charts
cannot be downloaded at all.
Tag every ourworldindata.org URL with `utm_source=owid-skills`, both the ones you
fetch and the ones you give to someone as a link, embed or code: append
`?utm_source=owid-skills`, or `&utm_source=owid-skills` when the URL already has
a query string. OWID's servers ignore it, and it is how OWID counts use of this
skill; it goes in the URL because many fetch tools cannot set headers. Wherever
headers can be set, also send this one, and always in any code or command you
write for someone else:
```
User-Agent: owid-skills/1.0 (+https://github.com/owid/skills)
```
