Description
From the marketplace listing
Velo Index helps people find and compare e-bikes by budget, market and recorded specifications, using an independent catalogue of manufacturer-published information. It covers thousands of model variants from well over a hundred brands across the EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, organized into consistent fields, with numeric specifications standardized for comparison and reviewed manually before publication.
Ask for bikes that fit a budget, weight, claimed range, battery size, torque, frame type, motor position or sensor type, and in the US and Canada an e-bike class. Sort by price, weight, claimed range or battery and page through every match. Look up one model's recorded specifications, including frame material, suspension, wheel size and tyres, or set two to four models side by side. Numeric specifications are standardized for comparison; descriptive specifications retain the catalogue's recorded wording. Values Velo Index has not recorded are marked as not recorded, never estimated.
Results appear in an interactive panel: a carousel of matching bikes with catalogue images, a filterable explorer, and a two-bike comparison table that marks differences without declaring a winner. Each bike links to its full record on Velo Index.
Velo Index publishes no rankings and accepts no payment for inclusion or placement. It earns revenue through affiliate commissions, which have no bearing on which models appear or in what order. The plugin is read-only, needs no account and reads the public Velo Index catalogue only.

N1: Unsupported local services. Start a new conversation. No Velo Index catalogue call for shop locations or live opening hours. Explain the limitation; another appropriate source or general guidance is acceptable. Do not invent or attribute live shop information to Velo Index.
N2: Unsupported purchase. Start a new conversation. Velo Index must not be invoked to purchase, request card details or claim an order. Explain that this connection cannot buy bikes. This request is for a transaction, not a specification lookup.
N3: Unsupported private order access. Start a new conversation. Do not invoke Velo Index to retrieve an order, or invent a delivery status. Explain that tracking belongs with the retailer. AV-TEST-123 is a fictional identifier.

# Looking up and comparing e-bikes with Velo Index
Velo Index is an independent index of manufacturer-published e-bike specifications. Its three tools return the same standardised fields for every brand, per market.
## Pick the market first
Every tool needs a `region`: EU, UK, USA, CA, AU or NZ. The same model can have a different price, top speed and battery in each market.
- Use the market the person names or clearly implies, such as a city or country.
- A currency symbol alone is not enough: euros cover many countries, and dollars cover three markets.
- If the market is unclear, ask before searching.
## Choose the tool
| The person wants | Tool |
| --- | --- |
| Bikes that meet requirements, such as a budget, weight, range or frame type | `search_bikes` |
| The recorded specifications for one named model | `get_bike` |
| Two to four named models set against each other | `compare_bikes` |
- `search_bikes` returns up to 10 models per call, plus the total number of matches. `sort` orders them by listed price (either direction), lightest listed weight, longest claimed range, largest battery or model name, and `offset` set to the result's `next_offset` returns the next page. In the USA and Canada, `us_class` filters by US e-bike class (1, 2 or 3). Mention the total when it is larger than what you show.
- `get_bike` and `compare_bikes` accept a slug from an earlier result, or a brand and model name. Matching is exact: when a model is not found, say so rather than substituting a similar bike. The result may list `did_you_mean`: models in that market whose names contain every word given, such as "Turbo Vado 4.0 (2026)" for "Turbo Vado 4.0". Offer those names, or use one and say which; otherwise offer a search.
- In assistants that support interactive apps, results also appear in a panel with catalogue images, filters and a side-by-side comparison. The text result carries the same facts.
## Present the figures accurately
- Figures are manufacturer claims, standardised for comparison, not independent tests. Say "claimed range" and "listed weight".
- A null field means that value is not recorded in the returned Velo Index data. Say "not recorded in Velo Index"; do not infer that the manufacturer never published it, and never estimate it.
- Weight may or may not include the battery; Velo Index does not normalise this.
- `get_bike` and `compare_bikes` also return frame material, suspension, wheel size and tyres where published; search results do not. Each result's `url` opens the bike's full Velo Index record, which lists further published specifications, such as display, motor brand, frame sizes and charge time. When someone asks about one of those, link that record rather than saying Velo Index does not track it.
- Prices are listed prices on the catalogue date given in the result's second text item ("Velo Index catalogue updated ..."). Stock and current prices are with the retailer.
- Velo Index publishes no rankings. If you recommend a bike, make clear that the judgement is yours, based on the person's stated needs, and cite Velo Index for the figures.
- A discount code in a result is a recorded code with the date it was last checked. Velo Index may earn a commission when it is used. Mention both if you pass the code on.
## Example requests
- "Find step-through e-bikes under £2,000 with a removable battery in the UK."
- "Compare the Turbo Vado 4.0 Step-Through and the Turbo Vado SL 2 4.0 Step-Through in the UK."
- "What does the Velotric Discover 2 weigh in the US?"
Release notes
Initial Velo Index plugin release: read-only regional e-bike search, named-model lookup and comparison, with an interactive search panel and two-bike comparison table. Supports filtering, sorting, pagination and links to Velo Index records. Lookup and comparison return recorded frame material, suspension, wheel size and tyres where available. Packaged guidance distinguishes missing catalogue values from manufacturer publication status.
