Invoke with /cw-thesis or /cw-thesis [topic/context].\n---\n\n# Thesis\n\n## Purpose\n\nGenerate 3 thesis options that crystallize the core insight of the piece.\n\nRead `../../references/context-contract.md` and resolve available audience context, including optional `AUDIENCE.md` or a named shared guide. The explicit assignment audience takes precedence; missing audience context does not block the task.\n\n## Invocation\n\n- `/cw-thesis [context]` — Generate theses for the specified topic/piece\n- `/cw-thesis` — System asks \"What's the piece about?\" then generates options\n\n## What Makes a Good Thesis\n\nA thesis should achieve several of these qualities:\n\n### Core Functions\n- **Reframes the familiar** — Shows us something we thought we knew from a fresh angle\n- **Bridges domains** — Connects ideas that don't usually talk to each other\n- **Names the unnamed** — Articulates something we've felt but couldn't express\n- **Reveals hidden physics** — Exposes the actual forces driving a situation\n- **Flips the script** — Challenges conventional wisdom without being contrarian for sport\n\n### Forms It Might Take\n- A coined term that actually helps us think (not jargon for jargon's sake)\n- A paradox that reveals deeper truth\n- A question that reframes the entire conversation\n- Pattern recognition across unexpected domains\n- A \"yes, and...\" that builds on existing ideas\n- A synthesis that creates something genuinely new\n- A distinction that clarifies muddy thinking\n- A prediction grounded in observable shifts\n\n### Quality Checks\n- Could someone build on this idea?\n- Does it help readers see their own experience differently?\n- Is it memorable without being gimmicky?\n- Does it feel discovered rather than constructed?\n- Would it spark a good dinner conversation?\n\n## How to Generate\n\n1. **Analyze the content** — What's the core insight? What's the writer actually saying?\n\n2. **Select 3 approaches** that fit. Consider:\n - What's the strongest version of this argument?\n - What framing would make this stickiest?\n - What would make a reader stop and think?\n\n3. **Generate one thesis per approach** — Each should be 1-2 sentences that crystallize the insight.\n\n4. **Present all three** with a brief note on the approach.\n\n## Output Format\n\n```\n## Thesis Options\n\n### Option 1: [Brief description of approach]\n[1-2 sentence thesis]\n\n### Option 2: [Brief description of approach]\n[1-2 sentence thesis]\n\n### Option 3: [Brief description of approach]\n[1-2 sentence thesis]\n\n---\n\nWhich feels closest? Or want me to try a different angle?\n```\n\n## Principles\n\n- **Arguable** — Someone could disagree; it takes a position\n- **Specific** — Not so broad it could apply to anything\n- **Sharp** — Cuts through; not mushy or hedged\n- **Generative** — Opens up thinking rather than closing it down\n\n## Lessons\n\n[Skill-specific lessons will be added here as they're captured]\n"
